Paris+ par Art Basel's second edition concluded today, marking another milestone in the vibrant cultural landscape of the French capital and solidifying its position as a global art market hub. The event, held at the Grand Palais Éphémère from October 20 to 22, 2023, showcased the dynamism of Paris' art scene with 154 premier galleries, including 61 operating spaces in France.
This edition featured an expanded, freely accessible public program, crafted in collaboration with the city's esteemed cultural institutions. The program unfolded across six iconic Parisian locations, enriching the experience for art enthusiasts and visitors alike. The event's success was amplified by the participation of leading international galleries from Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Notably, 15 galleries made their debut appearance at Paris+ par Art Basel, enhancing the fair's global reach.
Throughout its VIP and public days, the fair welcomed an impressive total attendance of 38,000. The galleries reported robust sales across various market segments, featuring artworks by renowned 20th-century masters like Alexander Calder, Ed Clark, Niki de Saint Phalle, Leonor Fini, Jean Hélion, Aristide Maillol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Anna Zemánková. Additionally, the fair highlighted blue-chip contemporary artists such as Mark Bradford, Tracey Emin, Camille Henrot, Loie Hollowell, Lee Ufan, Wolfgang Tillmans, Yan Pei-Ming, and Flora Yukhnovich. The event also celebrated mid-career practitioners and emerging talents, showcasing the diversity and depth of artistic expression.
Paris+ par Art Basel attracted leading art patrons and private collectors from France, Europe, the Americas, and Asia, creating a vibrant atmosphere of artistic appreciation and acquisition. The fair was graced by the presence of representatives from over 170 prestigious museums and foundations worldwide, including institutions like the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, the Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection in Paris, and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C.
Notably, esteemed figures such as French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak and First Lady Brigitte Macron visited Paris+ par Art Basel, underscoring the event's significance in the global art community. As the second edition concluded on a high note, the anticipation for the next edition grew, promising another enriching art experience in the iconic Grand Palais from October 18 to 20, 2024. Paris+ par Art Basel continues to shape the cultural landscape, fostering artistic dialogue and showcasing the best of contemporary and modern art to the world.
