“HARD CANDY” BRIAN “DOVIE” GOLDEN

Thinkspace Projects will be showcasing Hard Candy, a thought-provoking exhibit, from May 6 to May 27, 2023. Brian “Dovie” Golden, the African American contemporary artist based in Chicago, highlights the struggle of preservation in this show, utilizing the sweet treat as a metaphor for the human condition.

Thinkspace Projects is hosting their fourth joint exhibit with Golden, and it is the most extensive partnership and solo show to date. Through painting and drawing, the artist aims to explore topics such as identity, race, gender, and mental health, with a focus on reconciling the harsh realities of life.

Golden employs emotionally charged portraiture and abstract line sketches to facilitate conversation on complex and sometimes uncomfortable subjects. In this exhibit, he shares his personal experiences as a Black man navigating family, faith, and emotions. Golden's artistic expression is unique, incorporating pop culture elements and vivid colors reminiscent of his childhood love of drawing. His work nods to both pop art and photorealism, creating a fresh new style for contemporary art.
